I work with active duty military with PTSD each day and continue to be confounded by the lack of systematic treatment for these individuals. We are learning so much about this disorder each day and yet it seems so hard to put into place proven therapeutic regimens that are effective. We know now that Cognitive Behavior...al Therapy and EMDR are as effective as pharmacology (medications), but these therapy treatments must be conducted by knowledgeable and experienced therapists. If you spend an hour just talking with a therapist and there are no goals, exercises, homework assignments and accountability, you have just wasted your time. All PTSD treatment should be time limited and you should see symptom alleviation during your progress.
